Merle learned the building trade the old fashioned way -- building hog houses with his father Emil on the family farm northeast of Quincy.
Married to Shirley in 1950, the couple raised three children while Merle worked 22 years with Motorola in Quincy. But building was in his veins.
So in 1972 Merle went into the construction business full-time. Among his first projects were an apartment complex at Fourth and Elm, and several homes on Ken Ray Drive.
The subdivision was started in 1980, weathered the slow real estate years of the 1980's, and was completed in the early 1990's. The development became a model for other neighborhoods blending rural settings with urban amenities.
After Merle Dedert passed away in July of 1991, Denny purchased Merle's half of the company from Shirley. Today it's still going strong, supplying Quincy families with beautiful homes.
